According to the Urban Dictionary, to be 'fly' is to be cool, and amazing and awesome.  That sums up the Girls in Science and Technology Program (GIST) at the Helicopter Museum!

Bridging the technology gender gap in industry, GIST is a collaborative effort developed by the AHMEC and the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania to offer a fun and educational hands-on program where girls engage in classes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Each year the girls explore a different topic through hands-on activities and fun interactive sessions.

Every other Saturday from October through March, meetings are held from 2 to 4pm at the Museum.

There are excellent programs for girls from 4th through 12th grades:
• Physics of Flight (Grade 3)
• Space Exploration (Grade 4)
• Energy (Grade 5)
• Chemistry (Grade 6)
• Mechanical Engineering (Grade 7)
• Computer Coding (Grade 8)
• Robotics (Grades 9-12)

Each class is mentored by female college students in the STEM fields from local universities. In turn, the female college students are mentored by regional industry leaders from companies such as The Boeing Company, Enersys and Greene Tweed.

The cost of the program is $100.00 per girl. (Additional siblings are discounted to $50.00 per girl.) Financial aid is available; no girl shall be turned away due to the inability to pay.
