Have a history buff in your family? Here are some very cool events offering an authentic look back at some of the nation's earliest Christmas celebrations.

And we start with a tree-trimming event that takes place in the oldest building in Pennsylvania...

December 4th's Trim a Swedish Christmas Tree Party, is presented by The Friends of the Swedish Cabin in Upper Darby from 2 to 4pm.
The Swedish Cabin is the oldest building in Pennsylvania...and pictured
above, is an old photo, showing side buildings and a covered porch.
Pictured at the bottom is a recent shot of the historic site.
The cabin was built between 1638 and 1655,
though the exact year is not known.

Along the banks of the Darby Creek, within earshot of the noise and bustle of the 21st century, stands a piece of America's past.

The Swedish style log cabin was over 100 years old at the time of the American Revolution. The cabin is believed to be built by early Swedish settlers, and to have been part of the New Sweden colony.

The annual Tree--Trimming event is the perfect way to add an historic note to your holiday season.

Sit by our fireplace, enjoying Swedish treats while helping trim the tree with Swedish Christmas ornaments, Julgran, with apples, heart baskets and straw ornaments.

Sample Swedish foods and shop at the Butiken (the shop).  You can also stroll along the Darby Creek and through the woods while eating marshmallows, toasted over the bonfire.

Admission is FREE. For more event information, call 610-449-3577.

Experience Christmas on the Farm! at the Colonial Plantation in Ridley Creek State Park, Saturday, Dec 3rd, 11am to 4pm

Christmas at one of the oldest working Colonial farms in Pennsylvania!
Dress the kids for Puppet Shows, Candle Making and Farm Exploring at the Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation where volunteers and even the farm animals will help get everyone into a festive mood.

When the temperature is perfect, wicks are dipped into the pot
over and over until the candle is the authentic size.
If you (like me!) are addicted to HGTV, you'll love seeing how a colonial house 'dresses' for the holidays.

Outdoor greenery greets visitors upon arrival and swags of green with bunches of berries draw attention to the antique furnishings in the parlors.

One parlor will be set up for Christmas dinner. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children (ages 4-12). Children under 4 are free.

Christmas themed puppet Shows at 12:00 and 2:15

If we're lucky enough to have a coating of snow by December, the farm
will look like this...
Since the Plantation Closes for the Winter at the end of the day, the Plantation Store does their annual “end of the season” sale of colonial toys, quill pens, tricorn hats, redware pottery, textile items, CPP hats, tote bags and more. Don’t forget your shopping list!

11:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Admission is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children (ages 4-12). Children under 4 are free.
