On August 13th reserve your seat in the grass at Hibernia Park for the 88th Annual OLD FIDDLERS' PICNIC, where sunbeams streaming through the tree tops provide the light show and some of the best pickers and fiddlers in the state string together amazing performances from 10am to 4pm.

The Delco roots of this Picnic in the Woods go back to the event's debut in 1928. Originally known as the “Chester and Delaware Counties’ Old Fiddlers Picnic,” the event was the brainchild of Dr. S.L. Anderson and was coordinated annually by Delco's own Christian C. Sanderson.

As a fiddler, himself -- Chris, born 1882, was the perfect Picnic Coordinator.

He loved playing the fiddle almost as much as he loved collecting  historical memorabilia.
He was also a teacher, square dance caller, poet, and noted local historian in southeastern PA in the early to mid-20th century.  His Chadds Ford home is now preserved as the Christian C. Sanderson Museum, a rare showcase of historical artifacts collected by Chris throughout his lifetime.

Along with dozens of food and craft vendors, the spirit of Chris lives on at the picnic, through the Museum's Booth which will feature many of his most unique memorabilia and artifacts.

Pack a picnic lunch and a few blankets or lawn chairs and come celebrate traditional American music in the woodlands of Fiddler's Field.  There will be lots of activities for kids plus tours of Hibernia Mansion.
