The Delco Spotlight is a recurring people feature introducing individuals who contribute to life in Delaware County in cool, colorful and exciting ways.
Call them characters.  Call them unconventional. Occasionally the word crazy might apply.  But basically those featured here are just true Delconians...each a unique stitch in the fabric of who we are.
George has also been part of the tourism bureau's re-branding campaign
for Destination Delco.  Check out the PORTRAITS BLOG on

Portraits of Delaware County  Photo by Susan Scovill

George Rothacker owns
and directs one of the most successful ad agencies in the region.  He is also a prolific fine artist with a growing reputation for globally-inspired art works - many of which are currently on display at the Villanova University Art Gallery's current exhibit: “The Diverse Artistic Universe of George H. Rothacker III.”

The 54-piece exhibit runs now through July 28th and features scenes from the lively streets of Havana; illustrations of the defining social conflicts of our time; and vibrant portraits of some of the nation’s storied writers, and more.

Meet him in person, June 10th at a free public reception being held from 5 to 7pm in the Art Gallery, located in the Connelly Center on the Villanova campus.

Pablo Piccasso said: Art Washes From the Soul the Dust of Everyday Life.
So grab an art-loving friend or two, and spend a summer afternoon shaking off a little dust...
George is also an artful diarist of County life.
From a cool retro gas station on the Main hidden gems like the Cottage on the campus of Eastern University (pictured in the opening photo), many of his paintings celebrate Delco's amazing breadth of architectural designs, rich colonial history, our college campuses, garden sites, and the character of our diverse neighborhoods.

Artist comments:

I've lived in Delaware County since I was three three years old. The first place was on Lawrence Road near the old Bubblegum factory in Havertown. I went to Upper Darby High School...resided in Upper Darby, Broomall, Media, and Newtown Square and currently live in Radnor where I've been for 32 years.

I think the greatest thing about growing up here was its diversity. Not just in ethnic character, but in the types and personalities of the people I've gotten to know through my life. In 2009 I had a show at Newman and Saunders Galleries that described my journey in paintings. The title was "From the Inner City to the Outer Main Line" and portrayed West Philly, 69th Street, Media and the Main Line all the way out to Willistown. I even painted the apartment complex I lived in Upper Darby in the 1950s."
