From Dragonfly Walks (July 17th & 31st) to Bird, Butterfly, Plant and Nature Photography Expeditions, the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge is One of the Most Amazing Places in the Country - and it's Right Here in Delco!

This was America's First Urban Refuge, established in 1972 for the purpose of preserving, restoring, and developing the natural area known as Tinicum Marsh, to promote environmental education, and to afford visitors an opportunity to study wildlife in its natural habitat.

Admission is FREE and the park is open every day, sunrise to sunset. The Welcome Center is open daily (except Federal Holidays) from 8:30am to 4pm.

It's unique blend of forests, meadows, marshes and wetlands provides a haven for hundreds of species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. And, each month the staff plans about a dozen special guided tours for visitors.

Thousands come to hike 10 miles of woodland trails...canoe and kayak on the waterways...fish in the creeks...and explore all the the other nooks and crannies of this rare green jewel thriving in the shadow of state-spanning bridges, superhighways and the Philadelphia Airport.

There's plenty to see and do in this 1,000 acre living classroom -- connecting people and communities with nature and local history, promoting resource stewardship, conservation, habitat management and living compatibly with nature.

In the mega hit flick  HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON,
Hiccup (a teenaged Viking and Dragon Hunter) encounters a dragon
and soon realizes that
"Everything we know about you guys is wrong."

Don't be a Dragon Hunter like the Vikings in HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON... On July 17th & 31st, at 1pm come find out the truth about the lives of Dragonflies  ;)

Or take one of the tours below to learn about secret lives of other cool, creeping and feathered creatures living next door to us!
