The Community Arts Center in Wallingford is a beautiful estate location that is hosting several art and music events this month.

February 6th through March 12th – Don't miss the Dale Roberts Exhibition
Meet the artist at his February 21st reception, from 2 to 4 pm.

Roberts is an encaustic painter who earned a BFA in painting, graduating cum laude from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia.  He received the prestigious Rohm and Haas Purchase Prize for excellence in painting, and went on to teach at Arcadia University (formerly Beaver College) in Glenside, PA.

His work is in many public and private collections in the U.S., Canada and London. He was a Fine Arts Juror for the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts and was the subject of a Public television documentary in 2002.

Encaustic paintings are among the most permanent of all ancient painting media.
Encaustic painting is an ancient hot wax process that combines molten beeswax and dry colored pigments.  The work is done on a glue-prepared gesso panel where the paint is applied hot and manipulated in a variety of methods.

The final image is then heated in a process known as 'burning in'...fusing the layers together.  And it is this burning in that creates the highly durable finish that never darkens, yellows, cracks or fades, as is evidenced in paintings dating from 100 A.D.
